About this role
ROLE AND TEAM
As a Software Engineer, you will be part of an expert team of software engineers and applied scientists working towards keeping the delivery time promise for all Zalando customers. Your focus will be the design, development, and improvement of a core software system that drives algorithmic order prioritization and fulfillment optimization in all Zalando warehouses. In this role, you will face three significant challenges: ensuring the system adheres to the latest software engineering standards, gaining a comprehensive understanding of order processing systems to identify opportunities for improvement, and ensuring the software design supports the integration of complex multi-objective algorithms.

WHAT WE9D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Contribute to the design and implementation of our software framework to cater for the increasing scale and load.
Work on end-to-end solutions and contribute to the entire development cycle, including requirement engineering based on deep domain & business understanding, prototyping, implementing production software, as well as testing and operating the highly available production system.
Collaborate closely with our applied scientists to mutually influence and understand system constraints and opportunities, and take part in shaping the future of our system.
Think abstractly and discover correlations between problems, methodologies, and solutions.
Promote and support an inclusive culture and diverse team environment, fostering a positive and productive work environment for all team members.
WE9D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
You have relevant industry experience in developing for Java/JVM-based platforms, with a strong understanding of mathematical and computational concepts.
You are familiar with microservice architecture, frameworks (like Spring Boot) and patterns, REST, quality assurance and testing methods. Proficiency with Kubernetes, Kotlin, and Python are considered a plus.
You9re passionate about software design and aim for reducing complexity and producing designs that are easy to maintain and extend.
You9re excited about working in a setup that requires a deep domain understanding (e.g., how our logistics order processing works), basic mechanisms of our optimization algorithms, as well as operations research methods.
You9re a team player who thrives in an agile and cross-functional environment, and is passionate about fostering a positive and productive work environment.
You are fluent in English.
