Senior Applied Scientist (all genders)

Role Zalando Payments is looking for a Senior Applied Scientist to join the Risk Management Department, which is responsible for managing credit and fraud risk for payments and refunds. You will help develop risk models and causal inference predictors, participating in the full machine learning lifecycle from data deep dives to model creation, deployment, and monitoring. This role requires a strong research component combined with a production mindset to integrate findings into real-time systems. Responsibilities - Drive innovation and improve models through research, design, and development of new ML features. - Develop and maintain scalable ML pipelines. - Balance the need to block fraudulent activity while maintaining a seamless experience for legitimate customers. - Work with diverse datasets, including networks, natural language, and customer history. - Collaborate with functional areas such as operations and internal tool developers to drive business outcomes. - Make a substantial financial impact on the business. Qualifications - Experience in productionizing ML algorithms, including data collection, model development, deployment, and monitoring. - Familiarity with the payments (fintech), risk, or fraud domain. - Interest in researching new ML methods to improve model performance. - Strong analytical background, including A/B testing and SQL. - Ability to translate experimental findings into production-ready solutions.
