Around 13.700 households in southeastern Berlin are still without power as of Thursday morning, following a widespread power cut on September 9. The power cut is already the longest Berlin has seen in 25 years.
Power cut continues in southeastern Berlin
Residents in the southeastern Berlin neighbourhoods of Niederschöneweide, Köpenick, Grünau, Johannisthal, Adlershof, Bohnsdorf and Altglienicke are still without electricity following a significant power cut.
50.000 households initially had no access to electricity on Tuesday morning. Over the course of the day, 30.000 households were reconnected to the grid, and by Wednesday evening, 20.000 households remained disconnected. The remaining 13.700 should be reconnected by Thursday evening.
For now, Stromnetz Berlin has called on households which have been reconnected to keep electricity consumption to a minimum and refrain from using hoovers, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens or other energy-intensive appliances.
Police believe that arsonists targeted central electrical infrastructure in Berlin-Adlershof. Speaking to local broadcaster rbb, Berlin Interior Minister Iris Sprenger (SPD) called the attack “misanthropic” and said authorities are investigating a suspected group.
Berlin public transport affected by power cut
As of Thursday morning, several public transport services in Berlin are affected by the power cut, namely trams and buses.
Until further notice, the M17 tram is not running between Schöneweide S-Bahn station and Adlershof S-Bahn station. The 63 tram is not running between Köllnischer Platz and Landschaftspark Johannisthal. The 68 tram is not running between Betriebshof Köpenick and Wendenschloß.
Finally, the 265 bus is diverted between Sterndamm/Königsheideweg and Sonnenallee/Baumschulenstraße or Frauenlobstraße and Segelfliegerdamm/Waldstraße via Südostallee/Königsheide.
