DB to launch a three-times daily train between Berlin and Kraków

Deutsche Bahn has announced that it will soon run a train between Berlin and the Polish city of Kraków three times per day. Here’s what you need to know.

More trains between Berlin and Kraków

Deutsche Bahn has announced that it will soon run three direct trains per day between Berlin and Kraków. The German national rail company currently runs two connections per day between the cities.

The additional trains will run from December 15, 2024, when the company introduces its new timetable, but are already bookable via the Deutsche Bahn website. The direct journey will last over seven hours, with trains also stopping in Wrocław.

After Warsaw, Kraków is Poland’s largest city and known for the Wieliczka Underground Salt Mine, St. Mary’s Basilica and Wawel Royal Castle, which acted as the Nazi headquarters of Nazi-occupied Poland. Kraków is also the closest city to Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp built in Europe.

Deutsche Bahn tickets will be more expensive from December 15

Alongside adding new routes from December 15, Deutsche Bahn fares for long-distance trains are set to get more expensive.

The cost of a Flexpreis ticket will rise by an average of 5,9 percent. A BahnCard 100 subscription will rise by an average of 6,6 percent, but the cost of a BahnCard 50 and BahnCard 25 will remain the same.

The cost of Deutsche Bahn’s Sparpreis (21,99 euros) and Supersparpreis (17,99 euros) tickets for long-distance trains will also remain the same. The rail operator said that eight out of 10 Deutsche Bahn customers use the Sparpreis and Supersparpreis discounter tickets, which have to be booked well in advance of travel.
