The A7 Autobahn between Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heimfeld, including the Elbtunnel, will be closed over the weekend until December 8, 2025.
A7 closed in Hamburg
From 10pm on Friday, December 5, the A7 Autobahn will be closed between Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heimfeld until 5pm on December 8. As a result, the Elbtunnel will also be closed.
Certain access roads to the A7 will already be closed off at 9pm on December 5, including the turn-offs to Hamburg-Stellingen, -Volkspark, -Bahrenfeld, -Othmarschen, -Waltershof and -Heimfeld.
During the closure, through traffic will be diverted via the A1, A21 and B205. Transregional traffic going south will be diverted at Buchholzer Dreieck/Horster Dreieck via AK Maschener Kreuz to the A1. Transregional traffic going north will be diverted at Neumünster-Süd via the B205.
Drivers should expect congestion on the A1 around Norderelbbrücke, where traffic restrictions have been in place since mid-March, namely for lorries.
New lanes being added to A7 route
Closures are due to development work increasing the number of lanes on the A7 between Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heimfeld from six to eight. New gantries and sound protection barriers will also be installed along the route.
Along stretches of the A7 that pass through Hamburg’s Altona, Stellingen and Schnelsen districts, new tunnels will be constructed to reduce traffic noise, connect previously separated neighbourhoods and, according to the city of Hamburg, make space for around 5.000 new homes. The construction plan was finalised in 2009 and is expected to be completed by 2028.
