Construction works beginning on the line between Frankfurt and Mannheim will disrupt Deutsche Bahn trains until December 2024. Replacement bus services will be in operation between Frankfurt Airport and Mannheim.
On July 15 at 11pm, Deutsche Bahn is set to begin construction works on the so-called Riedbahn, a popular 70-kilometre-long connection between Frankfurt and Mannheim. Disruption on the route will continue until December 14, 2024.
In the meantime, regional transport and long-distance trains will continue to travel between Mannheim Hauptbahnhof and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, but the usually 40-minute journey will take around 30 minutes longer than normal.
Construction works also mean that there will be no direct train connection between Frankfurt Airport and Mannheim Hauptbahnhof until December 14. In the meantime, passengers will be able to travel between Frankfurt Airport and Mannheim using an IC Reise Bus which departs every 30 minutes.
At the airport, the bus will depart from Am Flughafen, 60549 Frankfurt am Main. The Mannheim bus stop for the IC bus is signposted and can be found directly outside Mannheim Hauptbahnhof at Heinrich-von-Stephan-Straße 5, 68161 Mannheim.
So significant a project is the Riedbahn renovation that Deutsche Bahn has made an entire mini-documentary about the Generalsanierung, Bahnsinn Riedbahn is available to watch on YouTube. For more information about the disruption and your passenger rights check the Deutsche Bahn website (in German).
