Two killed as plane crashes into house near Bremen

Two men have died after a small plane crashed into a house in Ganderkesee, near Bremen. Police are now investigating the accident, which has also left a family homeless.

Two men, aged 65 and 77 years old, have died after a small plane crashed into a house in Ganderkesee, near Bremen. 

The plane took off from Bremen and was flying near Ganderkesee before suddenly losing altitude and crashing into the roof of a detached house. Luckily, the residents were not at home, according to t-online.

Residents in surrounding homes were evacuated as local authorities removed debris lodged in the roof. Following the crash, police had initially reported that one of the men in the plane had died and one was missing, but the second man’s body was found during the recovery operation.

The 65-year-old victim has now been named as Turgut Pencereci, head of the State Water Authority in Brandenburg. The cause of the accident is still unclear and is now being investigated by local authorities. A technical fault or medical problems have so far been ruled out.

Family left homeless due to crash

The family who were living in the house into which the plane crashed have also now been left homeless.

A GoFundMe page started in their name asks for donations, “not to arouse compassion, but to show camaraderie and relieve the family at this difficult time”. 

The fundraiser, which has now closed, collected 11.820 euros from 271 donations. According to NDR, the damages will cost around one million euros.
