The 2026 edition of the Heidelberg String Quartet Festival focuses on American string quartet compositions that have significantly developed the genre in recent decades, into what it is today. This coincides with the year that marks 250 years of American independence.
It's also 250 years since the German composer Joseph Haydn helped to establish the string quartet as an art form.
