Described as explosive and bold, SAHASA is a dance piece for the young and adventurous at heart and explores the feeling of having to leave our comfort zone and strike out into the unknown.
Choreographed by Luxembourgish artist Jill Crovisier, SAHASA is an interdisciplinary piece that combines dance, freestyle football, free running, illustration and film. Three characters go on a journey of self-discovery, taking you along for the ride. It is about rising above fear and embracing the unknown but also feeling comfortable with your own limits. Of course, as with all dance, it is highly personal and subjective, but part of the aim is to relate to young people who are all starting out on their own first independent steps in life.
The name SAHASA is taken from the Nepalese word sāhasa, which means courage and boldness.
SAHASA will be performed in Cologne twice on June 19. The first showing will be at 4pm and the second at 7pm. In line with it being a piece both about and for young adults, it will be performed in the skatepark KAP686, on the banks of the Rhine. It is uncovered, so let's hope the weather holds!
You can easily reach the skate park by public transport. Schönhauser Straße tram stop is only 350 metres away, with trams 16 and 17 stopping there.
The event is free and no reservations are needed, so there's nothing stopping you from getting down there and feeling transformed by dance. You can find out more on the COMEDIA Theatre website.
