French Week Heidelberg

French Week Heidelberg takes place this October, with around 50 events relating to French and Franco-German culture! This year, the two special areas of focus are photography and music.

Over 50 French cultural events in Heidelberg

Expect to immerse yourself in theatre, literature, music, dance, acrobatic spectacles and so much more. French Week Heidelberg (Französische Woche Heidelberg) is organised by the Franco-German Cultural Association.

Here are just a few of the events to look out for in the festival programme:

Literature

This year, Nobel Prizewinner Annie Ernaux is the featured author at the Frankfurt Book Fair and thanks to that, there will be a special focus on her works at French Week Heidelberg.

Cinema

Attend French movie nights during French Week Heidelberg, with everything from nostalgic film noir to recent successes. Movies from various French-speaking countries will be in the spotlight on several days during French Week Heidelberg.

French Markets

Here are some of the markets taking place:

Craft & Photo Day

The Saturday market on Wilhelmsplatz Heidelberg Weststadt will turn French on Saturday, with French photography, handicrafts and culinary products.

French Book Flea Market

At Montpellier House, you can browse French language books at the French book flea market, and if you have books in French to give away, you can donate them. 

French music

A French-themed event would not be complete without French music. Here are some of the music events taking place:

French opera

Opéra Junior de Montpellier will perform at Lever Hall on Friday in the evening.

Chansons Contagieuses

As the name suggests, this concert on is about indulging in contagious classics. Think Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg, Edith Piaf, Bourvil, Juliette Gréco, Jacques Prévert, Charles Trenet, Carla Bruni and Zaz. Don't forget to order yourself a nice aperitif while you're at it!

French tour of Heidelberg

This tour of Heidelberg on Sunday gives insights of the different French luminaries, such as philosophers and writers, that lived and worked in Heidelberg over the years. Participants will meet at the Kornmarkt in the Old Town.
