Netflix raises all subscription prices in Germany by 2 euros

The US-based streaming giant has announced that it will raise the price of all subscription plans by 2 euros. Here’s what Netflix customers need to know:

Netflix standard now costs 16 euros

Spending 30 minutes debating what to watch, then watching something just okay, will now cost you 2 euros more every month.

Netflix has raised the price of all its subscription models. The monthly cost of a standard subscription with ads has increased from 4,99 to 6,99 euros, and a standard subscription without ads from 13,99 euros to 15,99 euros. The premium subscription price has increased from 19,99 euros to 21,99 euros.

It will also cost more to add an additional member to the ad-supported, standard and premium subscriptions. The cost of adding an additional member on the ad-supported plan will increase from 3,99 to 4,99 euros per month, and for the standard and premium subscriptions, from 4,99 to 5,99 euros per month.

Overall, customers with a standard subscription with ads will be paying 40 percent more than before, and those with an ad-free standard subscription will pay 14 percent more.  

Netflix requires explicit consent from German users

These prices now apply to anyone who would like to take out a Netflix subscription, but it is unclear when they will apply to existing Netflix customers in Germany.

In May 2025, a court in Cologne ordered Netflix to pay a German customer 200 euros for failing to sufficiently inform them of subscription price rises. 

When a “price change confirmation” pop-up appeared on their Netflix account, customers could click “agree” or “cancel subscription”. The court ruled that this notification implied the price increase was a done deal, not a change requiring customer consent.

According to Heise, this means that going forward, if Netflix customers in Germany do not explicitly consent to continue their subscription despite price rises, their subscription ends.
