Ahead of Germany’s round of 16 match against England, an elephant in Hamburg Zoo has been called on to predict the outcome. To the delight of German fans everywhere, the elephant has foreseen Germany will emerge victorious.

Predicting the future

Throughout history, a number of people - and animals - have demonstrated a spectacular ability to predict things that eventually become reality. Nostradamus, Baba Vanga, The Simpsons, Paul the Octopus; all have shown an uncanny ability to predict the future.

Now it’s time to add another animal to the list: Yashoda the elephant from Hamburg Zoo. Yashoda is a female Asian elephant that has demonstrated a remarkable ability to predict football matches. The 42-year-old elephant has correctly predicted the outcome of Germany’s football matches in the Euros this year, predicting Die Mannschaft would lose to France but triumph over Portugal.

Yashoda really demonstrated the extent of her psychic powers when she predicted Germany would draw with Hungary, picking up both of the countries’ flags when they were presented.

Yashoda prophesies German victory

On Monday, in front of a small crowd of German football fans, Yashoda was presented with the flags of England and Germany at the zoo in Hamburg. The elephant reached for the German flag, thereby predicting Germany would win the match.

Germany play England on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium in London. The match is Germany’s first of the knockout phase, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals of the Euros, which will be played against either Sweden or Ukraine.
