The second supermoon of 2025 will appear in the skies on Wednesday, November 5. The moon will be particularly close to our planet and appear unusually large in the sky.

Supermoon expected on November 5, 2025

Locals can look forward to an autumnal treat after the sun sets at around 4.30pm in Germany on November 5, the second supermoon of the year will appear in the sky.

The moon orbits the Earth in an oval-like shape, rather than a perfect circle. During the moon’s 27-day orbit, the distance between the moon and the Earth varies. When a full moon coincides with the moon's perigee, the point in its orbit when it is closest to Earth, we get a supermoon.

Supermoons happen three or four times per year, and when they do, they can appear around 7 percent bigger than the average full moon. “Aside from that, a supermoon is 15 percent brighter. The difference between a one and a two-euro coin makes for a good comparison,” Björn Voss of the Hamburg Planetarium told NDR.

How to see the supermoon from Germany

On November 5, 2025, the moon will rise at around 4.26pm in Germany. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the weather will be intermittently cloudy across all regions. This means the supermoon will be visible, but may be obscured by broken cloud.

For the best view, avoid areas with lots of light pollution and find a spot with an expansive view of the sky. Wrap up warm and bring the binoculars! If the weather doesn’t cooperate, don’t worry - supermoons come in waves. The next is forecast to appear on December 4, 2025.
