Architect (f/m/d) for Foundation Model and Data Platform

What you`ll do

At SAP Business AI, we are exploring the next frontier of AI on structured business data like graphs, tables and more. Foundation Models on structured data, like SAP-RPT-1, have ushered in the GenAI era for business relevant scenarios. Now, we are pushing further. We want to enable companies across all industries to collaboratively train foundation models and build knowledge graphs. As a leading Architect (f/m/d) in this larger initiative, you will work on the design and implement a platform for data federation, data enrichment and training, deployment as well as operation of multi-modal foundation models. Your work will complement existing AI platforms and overcome gaps when it comes to bringing together current foundation model training approaches, symbolic approaches like Knowledge Graphs, and enterprise data in a distributed, heterogeneous environment.

The Role

• Drive technical architecture and design topics of the data and training platform
• Define the components for multimodal data integration and knowledge graph-based asset exploration
• Produce reliable, future-proof and evolving architecture definitions and documentation for engineering teams implementing platform components
• Ensure secure, policy-compliment handling of proprietary industrial dataset and models (authentication, linage, provenance, licensing metadata)
• Coordinate effectively with technical, product, and management stakeholders across multiple involved teams and ensure alignment with the overarching technical concepts and project vision
• Support delivery teams with your deep technical guidance on integration patterns, platform configuration, and performance optimization topics

What you bring

• 8+ years of related professional experience in building and architecting components of data platforms or ML/AI solutions
• Strong background in data engineering, including data federation patterns and pipelines; experience handling heterogeneous, multi-modal data is a plus
• Expertise in designing secure and compliant systems, with deep understanding of data governance, lineage, provenance and isolation for sensitive industrial data and models
• Hands-on experience working with knowledge graphs and / or foundation models (e.g. fine-tuning) is a plus
• Strong hands-on software engineering skills, proficiency in Python and at least one other programming language
• Ability to translate business and research requirements into robust, scalable technical platform designs
• Experienced in collaborating effectively with product, consulting and customer teams, as well as other stakeholders
• Strong communication and documentation skills for technical stakeholders
• Being comfortable working in a complex, evolving environment with multiple partners, technologies and dependencies, iterating the architecture as components evolve
