Sen. Developer/Development Expert (Go) (f/m/d) - Open-Source Cloud Infrastructure (IronCore) (T3+T4)
About this role
We help the world run better. At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.
What you’ll build
IronCore is SAP’s next‑gen open‑source cloud infrastructure on Kubernetes. It manages servers, storage, and networks with Kubernetes‑native controllers to deliver a scalable, efficient platform powered by Software‑Defined‑Everything and hardware offload.
As a Senior Developer/Development Expert (f/m/d), you’ll build IronCore’s network‑fabric automation. Using Go, with occasional contributions in Ruby or other cloud‑native scripting languages, you’ll design Kubernetes‑native operators that unify multi‑vendor physical network fabrics behind a single abstraction – enabling faster, more reliable provisioning, policy/intent‑driven automation, and self‑healing, AI‑assisted operations across IPv4/IPv6 data centers.
You’ll also help evolve adjacent areas – virtualization, storage, and bare metal – through end‑to‑end ownership (code → deploy → observe).
Your work will include:
- Building CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC)
- Operating and optimizing services in cloud environments
- Collaborating with distributed teams and OSS partners bringing Agile software engineering excellence into infrastructure development.
Most of your contributions will be open source and publicly visible.
What you bring
- 5+ years in Go (Rust a plus); strong Linux systems, performance & debugging.
- Kubernetes operators/CRDs: design and ship production reconcilers (controller‑runtime/Operator SDK).
- Networking: IPv4/IPv6, TCP/UDP/TLS, BGP; routing/security fundamentals and practical troubleshooting.
- SDN & fabric automation: integrate multi‑vendor network APIs/SDKs (gNMI, NETCONF, REST, gRPC); intent/policy modeling and drift detection.
- Cloud‑native delivery: CI/CD and IaC (e.g., Argo CD, GitHub Actions, CDK) plus observability (Prometheus/OTel).
- Behaviors: ownership, clear communication, collaborative OSS mindset (please share GitHub).
- Bonus: operating Kubernetes in production (managed or self‑hosted, incl. EKS/GKE/AKS).
Where you belong
The IronCore team is a diverse and experienced group of engineers passionate about distributed systems, Kubernetes, and open‑source infrastructure. Based in Munich and Walldorf, we work in a collaborative, feedback‑driven environment where individual ownership and deep system understanding are valued. Your expertise will shape the foundation of cloud infrastructure at SAP and beyond.
