Berlin’s central station (Hauptbahnhof) will be partially closed for construction works for two months in early 2025, Berliner Zeitung has reported.

Berlin Hauptbahnhof to partially close in early 2025

Between February 17 and mid-April 2025, Berlin Hauptbahnhof will be partially closed for construction work.

According to the Berlin-based newspaper Berliner Zeitung, four of the station’s eight underground platforms will be out of service during the partial closure.

During two weekends the eight underground platforms will be closed entirely, from March 21 (at 10pm) to March 24 (at 4am) and over the Easter weekend from April 18 (at 10pm) to April 22 (at 3am).

Deutsche Bahn will lay new switches in Berlin central station

“Due to the stark increase in passenger numbers on regional and long-distance trains in Berlin, traffic concepts are now being planned which require corresponding adjustments to infrastructure,” a spokesperson from Deutsche Bahn said of the planned renovations.

Renovations are being carried out to lay six new switches on the station’s underground tracks. Rails will also be renewed, control and safety technology will be adapted and heaters added to certain parts of the line.

Starting February 17, disruption will impact the lines in the direction of Südkreuz and then in the direction of Wedding from March 24.
