Three U-Bahn lines in Berlin, the U1, U3 and U4, will be disrupted for four months from January 2026 onwards. Here’s what passengers need to know.
Nollendorfplatz construction work will disrupt U-Bahn services
Between January 12 and mid-May 2026, construction work will be carried out on the ceiling separating the two lower levels of Nollendorfplatz U-Bahn station. The ceiling has been damaged by moisture and train tracks must be removed to complete the repair.
As a result, approximately 560.000 passengers who use the lines U1, U2, U3 and U4 every day will be impacted. The U2, which runs through Nollendorfplatz station on overground tracks, is the only line which will not be impacted by the construction works. The U1 and U3 will be interrupted at Nollendorfplatz, while the U4 will be completely suspended from January 12 to mid-May.
Passengers can use U2 and replacement bus services
The local transport association, the BVG, has reminded passengers who normally travel with the U1 or U3 that they can use the U2 as an alternative to reach Gleisdreieck, Bülowstraße (four minutes' walk from Kurfürstenstraße), Nollendorfplatz and Wittenbergplatz.
For passengers who usually travel with the U4, Berlin’s shortest U-Bahn line, replacement buses will be in operation between Nollendorfplatz, Viktoria-Luise-Platz, Bayerischer Platz and Innsbrucker Platz.
