"Chaos weather" coming to Germany

By Abi Carter
Apr 4, 2019

Snow in the south-west and 22 degrees in the east… Only a few weeks ago we were talking about the arrival of the spring weather, but now it seems that some parts of the country are regressing back into winter: so much so that tomorrow Germany will witness two seasons in one day!

Heavy snow in south-west Germany

Cool air is flowing across Germany from northwest Europe, bringing with it heavy snowfall. In the higher regions of the Alps and the Black Forest National Park, snow has been falling heavily since last night.

Today it will be much drier, but overnight the temperature will cool again, perhaps has low as two or three degrees in Munich. Heading into Friday morning, there is a strong chance of rain, mixed with snow in some places. In the Alps, there will be continuous snowfall, up to two metres in some places. If you're planning on driving to work, make sure to leave plenty of extra time.

22 degrees in the east

At the same time, however, a warm front is heading into Germany from the eastern Mediterranean, bringing with it warm winds and high temperatures. Therefore, residents in the east of the country can look forward to a much sunnier outlook: a mixture of sun and clouds, with temperatures as high as 21 or 22 degrees in parts of Brandenburg and Berlin.

Towards the weekend, the weather in Germany will get a lot warmer, and much of the snow in the south can be expected to melt. Estimates are between 12 and 19 degrees on Saturday and 14 to 20 degrees on Sunday, mixed in with a few short showers - it’s finally starting to look like April again!
