A defective signal box at Jannowitzbrücke station in Berlin has now been repaired, but delays continue on the S-Bahn Stadtbahn lines S3, S5, S7 and S9. The BVG has also announced construction work that will disrupt the U1, U3 and U4 lines for four months.
S-Bahn Berlin has announced that a signal box at S- and U-Bahnhof Jannowitzbrücke has now been repaired.
On Friday morning, the defective signal box led to severe disruptions and cancellations on the central Stadtbahn S-Bahn line, which serves the S3, S5, S7 and S9 trains. It was initially unclear how long the disruptions would last.
The S3, S5, S7 and S9 trains are now running again, but S-Bahn Berlin has said passengers should expect continued delays and disruptions.
There’s more transport disruption ahead for Berliners. On July 11, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) announced that the Nollendorfplatz U-Bahn station will close for four months starting at the beginning of 2026.
The local transport association explained that the roof of a tunnel in the station is considered at risk of collapsing, and repairs are necessary. During the closure, trains on the U1 route will run only on the stretches between Wittenbergplatz and Uhlandstraße in the west and between Gleisdreieck and Warschauer Straße in the east.
The U3 train will terminate at Spichernstraße, and the U4 train service will be halted altogether. The BVG will likely operate a replacement bus service for these lines until construction is completed. The U2 is the only line that will not be disrupted during the repairs, since it passes through Nollendorfplatz on the overhead U-Bahn tracks.
