Researchers at the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM) are appealing to German citizens with a migration background to take part in a new research project.
Researchers at DeZIM are looking for German citizens with a migration background aged 18 years or older to take part in interviews as part of a new project.
In particular, researchers are looking for people who have family in or ancestral connections to Central Asia, Eastern or South-Eastern Europe and have become German citizens through ancestry.
The research project asks how the “vision of Europe change[s] across generations of citizens” and what is the role of “European citizenship and ancestry in the constitution of a fair and future-oriented Europe?”.
The project began in June 2024, is expected to last until May 2027 and is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
During the current project stage, DeZIM researchers would like to interview willing participants across the German federal states about their families' and their personal understanding of citizenship, ancestry, belonging and “visions of Europe”.
Interviews would last one hour and take place in a cafe near the participants’ house or work, or in an online call. The interview transcripts would then be anonymised for research purposes.
Anyone who is interested in taking part in the project can find out more here or send an email to [email protected] for further information.
