A direct train taking passengers between Nuremberg and Munich Airport is set to launch in December 2024, the Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) has announced.
Air passengers in Bavaria will have more flexibility from December when the Airport Express train from Munich Airport is extended to Nuremberg.
The train will run every two hours and the journey to and from Munich Airport via Regensburg and Landshut will take approximately two and a half hours.
By taking a high-speed ICE from Nuremberg to Munich Hauptbahnhof and changing to the S-Bahn for the airport, it is already possible to complete the journey in two hours. But the Airport Express extension means that passengers will not have to change trains in Munich.
Minister for Transport in Bavaria Christian Bernreiter (CDU) has said that the new Airport Express will also benefit local residents’ everyday travel, not just air passengers.
Between Munich Airport and Bavaria’s second-largest city, the train will also stop in Neumarkt, Parsberg and Beratzhausen, three towns southeast of Nuremberg.
