After the original phallic sculpture was apparently chopped down and taken away, a second wooden phallus, even larger than its seven-foot predecessor, has been erected in its place.

The Guardian of the Allgäu rises again

A second wooden phallus has been installed on the Grünten mountain in Bavaria, just a few days after the original sculpture disappeared. The original sculpture, known as the “Guardian of the Allgäu”, was a popular hiking destination which had stood on the Grünten for many years until it went missing last weekend, with nothing but a pile of sawdust to suggest it had ever been there.

The new sculpture is slightly bigger than the previous “cultural monument” and is supported by a number of wooden beams. It is unclear who installed the new sculpture on the mountainside, but webcam footage from the nearby Grünten lifts vaguely shows two figures at work at the site on Wednesday, December 2.

Police still investigating

Police are still investigating the disappearance of the first wooden phallus. However, their enquiries have proven fruitless: “Nothing has happened in the matter,” said a police spokesperson on Tuesday. “It is still unclear whether it’s a criminal offence.” So far, no possible owners have been identified.
