Various venues Berlin

Held every second year, Berlin Biennale turns the city into a hive of contemporary art. This autumn, exhibitions featuring the art of today - primarily paintings sculptures and films - take place at important venues in Berlin from September 5 to November 1, 2020.

Find out what's going on in today's art

Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art was founded in 1998, with the aim of exploring the artistic developments and visions of the Berlin art scene. Taking place once every two years, it has become a mecca for art practitioners and art lovers from all over the world.

This year, the curators are predominantly of South American origin. As well as browsing the galleries at your own pace, visitors can also take part in guided tours of the iconic buildings in which the exhibitions take place - Gropius Bau, daadgalerie and KW Institute for Contemporary Art - in English, Spanish and German.

The coronavirus pandemic, of course, had a massive effect on the planning of the event. The section of the event taking place in autumn 2020 was supposed to have taken place from June 13 - September 13. Therefore, the event in its place has been subtitled “Epilogue”.

Berlin Biennale venues

The contemporary art can be viewed at the following venues:

  • KW Institute for Contemporary Art

  • Gropius Bau
  • The project space “11th Berlin Biennale c/o ExRotaprint”
