The seaport city of Emden is transformed into a floating Christmas market each holiday season, enchanting locals and visitors alike with its unique festive experience on the water. The Engelkemarkt, which gets its name from the eagle that flies over the city wall on the Emden coat of arms, is sure to enchant everyone in the family, young and old alike.
Rather than covering the meandering cobblestone streets, the Engelkemarkt in Emden sees the harboured ships in the old inland port get a festive makeover. Visitors can explore the ships and see what they have to offer.
The museum ship and traditional sailing ships are lit up with thousands of lights, which cast a warm glow over visitors, while the aroma of mulled wine, cinnamon and cloves fills the air.
