The Berlin Hummus Festival returns for the fourth year in a row to the city of Berlin, bringing together everyone with unconditional love for chickpeas.

Whereas previous editions of the festival explored the roots and history behind this popular dish, this year’s festival is set to centre on the growing international love and appreciation for hummus.

Hummus Festival Berlin returns!

The fourth edition of the Berlin Hummus Festival revolves around the organisers', exhibitors' and visitors' appreciation for the chickpea and hummus. But, what is hummus exactly, you may ask? While the exact historical roots surrounding hummus may be difficult to trace, it is safe to say that hummus is an Arabic dish, made from chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, lemon juice and garlic.

Over the years, thousands of different variations of hummus have been explored, with other spices like smoked paprika, cumin, and sumac added as the dish was adopted by most countries in the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. A firm staple in most vegetarian and vegan diets, this dish can be found on the shelves of most supermarkets today.

Show your love for chickpeas at the Hummus Festival

As international love for this dish only continues to grow, the Berlin Hummus Festival brings hummus lovers together to share their appreciation by trying new types of hummus!

So take a break from the traditional German cuisine and sample several different interpretations of the dish during the festival while listening to beautiful music from Syria, Lebanon and Egypt, the regions hummus is said to come from while enjoying an ice-cold German beer or two.
