Mainz Rhine Spring Fair

Adenauer Ufer, Taunusstraße, 55120
Mainz
Entrance free

This event usually takes place in April but due to construction work, it has been moved to July for its 2023 edition.

Mainz celebrates the arrival of spring with a fair in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Rhine River. Formerly the Mainz Spring Fair, the Mainzer Rhein-Frühling has recently been given more prominence and expanded to include a wider range of attractions and events for the whole family to enjoy.

Fireworks and Ferris wheel

The opening of the fair is marked on its first evening with a spectacular firework display over the river - and there will be yet more fireworks to enjoy on the final Saturday, after darkness falls.

Throughout the two weeks, the skyline will be dominated by the 48 metre-high “Grand Soleil” Ferris wheel, giving a thrilling view over the city and the river, and providing a proper centrepiece for this family fair.

Thrilling rides

A highlight of the Rhine Spring is the collection of big rides such as “Chaos Airport”, a two-storey combination of an obstacle course and a themed ride, including a climbing tower. More adventurous fairgoers will enjoy the huge swing, lifting riders 40 metres into the air, as well as the scream-inducing “windscreen wiper” ride that rotates at a terrifying velocity.

Children’s entertainment

Children are well-served by the fair, with a range of attractive carousels and smaller rides. In addition, there are sideshows, games of skill and luck, and a range of snack stands selling both sweet and savoury treats. Wednesdays are "family days" at the fair, with many rides offered at a discount.

Vintage car rally

On Easter Monday, the 12th Mainz Rhine Spring tractor and classic car rally will take place at the fair. Cars and vintage farm machines arrive at the fairground at 10am, before driving through the city. This rally has expanded to become one of the highlights of the fair, attracting enthusiasts from across the region.

Visiting Mainz Rhine Spring

The fair is open every afternoon and evening, except on Good Friday when it is closed. Entrance is free but rides have their own charges, starting from around 2,50 euros. Mainz is easily accessible by car, with parking nearby, and the show ground is a short walk from the main railway station.
