On November 29 and 30, around 500 runners of all levels are expected to join a 24-hour run in Berlin. Participating runners can complete multiple six-kilometre routes as many times as they like.
An unusual Berlin running event
The Berlin Marathon may be the highlight of the capital’s running calendar, but the city has plenty more weird and wonderful running events on offer. Enter the Heat24 run.
On Saturday, November 29, runners of all abilities are invited to take part in the event, which is free of charge. Starting at 12pm, the run will consist of four routes, each six kilometres long and all beginning in the vicinity of Spichernstraße 2, Wilmersdorf.
Runners can complete as many of the routes they like, as many times as they like over a 24-hour period until the routes close at 12pm on Sunday, November 30. Anyone who completes all four routes will receive a medal.
Heat24 to raise money for homeless people in Berlin
While running the Berlin Marathon will set you back around 205 euros, taking part in the Heat24 run costs nothing. You can sign up for free on the website. The event is funded by sponsors and was created to raise money for organisations supporting homeless people, including Berliner Stadtmission.
According to recent figures released by the Berlin Department for Social Affairs, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the German capital will increase by 60 percent by 2029.
The Senate estimates that there were just under 26.000 people experiencing homelessness in Berlin in 2022. In 2025, the figure has increased to 53.600 and is expected to grow to 85.600 by 2029, unless the local and federal governments implement policies to help people at risk.
