A gust of “extremely cold and dry” Siberian wind is expected to arrive in Germany at the end of this week, according to The Weather Channel.

Germany braces for Siberian wind

The weather has only just warmed up a little, but Germany is already bracing for a second cold winter snap. This time, with Siberian wind. According to a forecast from The Weather Channel, temperatures will start to drop towards the end of the week of January 19.

As the cold Siberian wind arrives, eastern parts of Germany may see temperatures as low as -20 degrees celsius. The Weather Channel predicts that the “real feel” temperatures might even sink to -30 degrees. Time for a second pair of long johns?

At the moment, temperatures below freezing are forecast to last into February, and residents in eastern federal states will face the coldest weather. However, forecasts for the end of January and the beginning of February could change in the coming days.

Freezing cold, but snow is unlikely

While the first cold snap of 2026 was a challenge, it brought relief from the grey January gloom with bright and cheerful snow flurries, skating and sledging opportunities.

The same cannot be said for the incoming snap. Currently, no snow is forecast for the remainder of January. However, that may change. As a polar jet turns towards the Mediterranean, it is expected to bring plenty of rain from Spain to Greece.

If the polar jet changes course and meets the Siberian wind heading to Germany, parts of the federal republic could see a fresh blanket of snow. Here's hoping!
