Which tunes filled our ears as we rode the U-Bahn, boiled up a Knödel, or enjoyed a Wegbier? Here’s what Germany was streaming on Spotify in 2024.

Germany embraces Swiftism

One guess for who was the most Spotify-streamed artist in Germany in 2024? On the planet? We all knew what was coming. Backstreet’s ba…

No, of course, it was none other than childless cat lady Taylor Swift, according to the Swedish streaming platform’s “Spotify Wrapped” annual round-up feature.

Across the world, Swift’s music was streamed more than 26,6 billion times. With 300 million streams in one day, her most recent album The Tortured Poets Department broke a record. The federal republic wasn't immune to the Swiftism that rocked 2024, the German city of Gelsenkirchen even renamed itself in honour of her visit in July.

But German-language music prevails. Berlin native Luciano, known by the Bürgeramt as the less-glamorous Patrick Großmann, took the silver spot for 2024. The rapper is part of the wider Locosquad group and is best known for his song Bamba, featuring English rapper Aitch and US rapper BIA.

North Rhine-Westphalian singer Ayliva followed in third place for the most streamed artist in Germany. The former philosophy student from Recklinghausen has shot to fame since 2020. Bone MC, Apache 207, Pashanim, Travis Scott, Linkin Park, RAF Camora and The Weeknd filled out the remaining spots of the top 10.

What were Germany’s Ohrwürme in 2024?

When it comes to specific Ohrwürme, the Brits won Germany’s hearts in 2024. English singer Artemas topped the Spotify Wrapped list with his song i like the way you kiss me. Since its release in March 2024, the grunge-cum-80s-syth hit has been number one in Austria, Belgium (Flanders), Germany, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Latvia and Lithuania.

Ayliva made it in again at number two, with her song Wunder featuring the aforementioned rapper of Baden-Württemberg, Apache 207. See the above video for some colloquial German, a tale of jealousy, using escalators and defiantly sitting at restaurant tables reserved for other guests.

In third place, a song you might never have chosen to listen to, but have certainly heard, was Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things. Thanks to TikTok, a blast from the past made it in at number seven, none other than Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten. Who wants to place a bet for which month of 2025 will see skinny jeans return?
