By Naina Pottamkulam

Visiting another country – or even moving to one – can be an exciting and enriching experience. Usually, we try to make the most of it by reading up on social and cultural norms and expectations, so we know how to behave and what to do. However, most of the time, what is equally – or debatably even more – important, is learning what NOT to do.

But why not?

Every country has some things that are unacceptable in its culture, that as a foreigner, might leave you a little confused. Germany is no different.

Whether it’s throwing away empty bottles, carrying less than a 100 euros in your wallet or even wishing someone "Happy Birthday" a few hours before their actual birthday, there are some things that are absolutely unacceptable to Germans. So unless you want to attract some dirty looks, try to avoid being late, breaking traffic rules, or actually expecting service from a service employee!

This video by EASY GERMAN tells you about 8 things you absolutely shouldn’t do in Germany, and why not.

Have you ever broken any of these rules? What reaction did you get? Let us know in the comments below!
