Across the world, hip young things hear the siren call of Berlin and return home in their gladrags straight from the source of cool. Looking to join them? We take you through the best vintage and secondhand shops Berlin has to offer:

Vintage shops in Berlin to wander through

Berlin's vintage and secondhand shops have something for everyone, and within every price range. If you're overwhelmed by the secondhand shopping prospects in the capital, here's where to start!

1. PicknWeight

Not everything in this vintage shop is pure gold, but most of it is very affordable. Treat shopping in this place as a treasure hunt as you browse clothes from the 1920s to the Gen Z future and beyond. All clothing is priced per weight. Whether it’s a new outfit for a themed party or an oversized sweater, PicknWeight has it all. Head to the discount section at the back of the shop to do some real digging around and expect great bargains in return.

2. Sing Blackbird

A stark contrast to buying by the kilo, this stunning shop and café has specific, curated pieces from all the ages. Bring all your friends to peruse their designer bags, jeans, clothes, and jewellery collections - but make sure you don't all end up falling in love with the same piece, as they're one-of-a-kind! Sing Blackbird also hosts events like flea markets, movie nights, and live concerts.

3. Humana Secondhand

Humana rules the roost when it comes to secondhand shops in Berlin. There are 23 Humana branches in the capital and 40 across Germany. Most Humana shops are divided into two sections: one where you can find newer clothes from fast fashion brands for around 10 euros, and a vintage section, where you can expect to pay around 20-25 euros for older, but better quality, secondhand clothes.

4. Trash Schick

Sometimes trashy can be chic! If you’re looking for a place that has punk authenticity, look no further. With its tattered interiors and edgy collections, this shop completes the punk Berlin vibe. Discover designer shoes and clothes alongside lesser-known pieces, all selling for as little as a euro each. The inventory changes weekly, so you can keep your collection fresh.

5. Femme Designer Secondhand

Fall in love with the many timeless pieces at the Femme Designer Second Hand vintage shop. In this bright store, there’s no musty smell or dull colours. Most of the clothes have been hardly worn or are brand new, and their vibrancy and quality have been well maintained. With the attractive prices and classic pieces, the Femme Designer Secondhand shop is a definite must-visit for anyone who loves vintage shopping.

6. Koku Berlin

This is a one-stop shop for anyone looking to fulfil their vintage Dr. Martens wishes. The walls of Koku on Neukölln's Schillerpromenade are lined floor to ceiling with every pair of Docs you could want, every colour, every style, all secondhand and all in mint condition! If Docs aren't your thing, their collection of trainers also makes Koku worth a visit.

7. Flea markets (Flohmärkte) in Berlin

While flea markets (Flohmärkte) aren't brick-and-mortar vintage shops, it would be remiss to leave them out of this list. Flea markets are among the best places to find vintage and secondhand clothes in Berlin. There are dozens of flea markets held across the city every weekend. Some take 15 minutes to walk around, others have stalls for miles and require a whole afternoon for digging.

Flea markets are particularly good for getting basics for cheap, like a pair of secondhand trainers or basic t-shirts and jumpers. Prices will vary significantly depending on the market you visit and the item you’re buying.

The markets at Boxhagener Platz (Sunday), Nowkoelln (every second Sunday) and Mauerpark (every Sunday) are among the best stocked and most popular. Expect to pay in cash, bring change, and don’t be afraid to barter!

You can find a directory of all flea markets across the city here.

Berlin is a painfully trendy city, but that makes it one of the best places in the world to bag your next conversation starter piece. Get your fingers ready to flick through those hangers!
