Head of Applied Science | Marketing Measurement & Effectiveness - Lounge by Zalando (All Genders)

Role: Lead the Applied Science team for Lounge by Zalando, building the scientific engine that drives capital allocation decisions across marketing, CRM, and commercial planning. Own the scientific roadmap for marketing effectiveness, develop frameworks for marginal ROI, and ensure adoption and governance of predictive models. Responsibilities: - Build and own a unified measurement ecosystem integrating Bayesian MMM, geo‑experimentation, and multi‑touch attribution. - Design low‑latency infrastructure to support 72‑hour flash‑sale campaigns. - Develop and deploy causal inference pipelines (A/B, geo‑matched, synthetic control) to estimate incremental lift. - Reduce bias in attribution models and improve precision. - Translate complex data science outputs into actionable commercial recommendations and embed them into daily marketing, CRM, and planning processes. - Optimize capital allocation using machine‑learning models (pLTV, churn) and marginal ROI algorithms. - Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists and analysts, handling hiring and professional development. - Collaborate with ML engineering and ad‑tech teams to feed first‑party data into bidding strategies. Qualifications: - Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics or a related quantitative field. - 8+ years leading applied‑science, economics, or machine‑learning teams. - Proven experience deploying low‑latency, high‑scale data solutions. - Strong commercial acumen and ability to drive profitable revenue growth. - Excellent communication skills, able to explain causal inference and ROI concepts to both creative and finance audiences. - Data‑driven mindset with a track record of moving the needle on actual ROI.
