Senior Machine Learning Scientist / Data Engineer - Logistics Algorithms (all genders)

Role: Senior ML Scientist / Data Engineer driving algorithmic research‑driven software development in Zalando's logistics team, focusing on predictive warehousing, scheduling, planning and routing decisions. Responsibilities: - Research, design, and implement algorithms and predictive models. - Deliver end‑to‑end solutions covering research, prototyping, production implementation, testing and operation of highly available systems. - Influence research and development methodologies to build scalable, data‑driven architecture. - Support and coach other Applied Scientists by sharing expertise. Qualifications: - Master's or PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a quantitative field. - Industry experience in algorithm‑related software development (Java, Kotlin, Python). - Hands‑on experience with microservice architecture and distributed data processing (e.g., Spark, Databricks). - Strong knowledge of advanced algorithmic techniques (combinatorics, graph theory), mathematical modeling (operations research, statistics) and machine learning approaches (forecasting, Bayesian networks). - Minimum 6 years of applied research experience with a proven record of autonomous problem solving. - Excellent collaboration skills in agile, cross‑functional teams.
