Driver caught speeding at 321km/h on German autobahn
They were probably driving too fast to clock the speed limit sign: a driver was caught doing 321 kilometres per hour on the autobahn in Saxony-Anhalt, nearly three times the limit for that stretch of road.
Speeder clocked going at 321 km/h on A2 autobahn
The autobahn may be famous for not having a speed limit, but this is actually something of a misconception that can land drivers with a need for speed in hot water.
During heightened checks for this week’s speed camera marathon, police clocked a Porsche driver travelling at 321 km/h down the A2 near Burg in Jerichower Land. According to MDR Sachsen-Anhalt, the speed limit on that particular stretch was 120 km/h.
According to German police, the driver now faces a slew of traffic fines: 900 euros in fines, two penalty points on his driving licence, and a three-month ban from driving.
Driver caught during speed week campaign
The so-called “speed camera marathon”, part of a Europe-wide campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding, has been underway in Saxony-Anhalt since Monday. Police are running extra speed limit checks at key locations across the federal state, and apparently caught hundreds of speeders on the first day alone.
Speaking of the 321-km/h-speeder, police issued a clear message: “Speeding endangers not only the driver, but also other road users. Adhere to the speed limits - this way you'll stay safe on the road and avoid hefty fines, points on your licence, and driving bans."
