The annual Serbian film festival Filmanak is set to return to the city of Stuttgart once more! A meeting place for international audiences, film students and renowned filmmakers from the Baden-Württemberg region and Serbia, the event screens films that are connected by a common theme.

Under the slogan “Take your German friend with you” Filmanak film festival aims to build a bridge of understanding between Serbia and Baden-Württemberg through art and culture. At the same time, the festival also aims to create space for future collaboration and strives to expand its programme with films by locals, developed in cooperation.

The festival was first launched in 2011, after a few film enthusiasts and film lovers wanted to share their love of the art form with an international audience. The first Serbian film evening took place at the University of Stuttgart, and one year later the first Serbian Film days took place, screening films that showcased young adults on their own paths to becoming mature individuals.

Organised by the Serbian Academic Network - Nikola Tesla, the programme for this year’s Filmanak film festival includes three different Serbian films, which will be shown in their original language with English or German subtitles, or dubbed into German - see the festival programme for more details. 

All of the films will be screened at the Innenstadtkinos Cinema in the city centre, with selected filmmakers and actors participating in panel discussions following the films. What’s more, filmgoers are offered the chance to talk about the films in further depth which each other in the cinema foyer.
