More than 25.000 runners are expected to participate in the Generali Munich Marathon this year, one of the largest sporting events in Germany!

One of Germany's greatest, fastest and largest marathons

Ever since the first international marathon in Munich in 1983, the Generali Munich Marathon has had an outstanding reputation and has become one of the top running events in Germany.

Its history includes several world records since it attracts world-class athletes from Germany and abroad each year. In a typical year, over 950.000 spectators come to cheer on the athletes.

Iconic Munich running course

The Generali Munich Marathon is a rewarding experience for both runners and spectators alike, thanks to the very scenic running course. It takes in many famous landmarks and monuments in Munich, such as the world-famous Siegestor. 

The race usually begins and ends at the iconic Munich Olympic Stadium, but in 2024 it's had to be rerouted due to works on the stadium. Don't worry, there are still events at the start and finish where spectators can enjoy a unique atmosphere!

In 2024, the course runs from the Olympic Park to Leopoldstraße with the Siegestor, over Schelling- and Theresienstraße to the Englischer Garten. From there, it goes past the Chinese Tower and Bogenhausen, with its art nouveau villas, on through the eastern part of Munich and over the Isar bridge.

From there, it continues through Isartor, over Tal to Marienplatz and via the Bavarian State Opera to Odeonsplatz. The last five kilometres are simply spectacular: along Via Ludwigstraße, Leopoldstraße and finally Franz-Jospeh-Straße back to the finish line at Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz, right next to the Olympic Hall!

This exciting sporting event combines a fun mix of athletic competition with a fun festival, with more than 30 bands, DJs and orchestras due to perform.
