Are you ready to get your science nerd on when visiting Berlin this summer? Then don’t miss out on the Long Night of Sciences! Also known as the "smartest night of the year", this annual event sees laboratories, scientific institutions and libraries that are usually closed to the public invite visitors in for one evening (and one evening only)!

What is the Long Night of Sciences?

Taking place on June 17 from late afternoon to midnight, over 60 scientific associations across Berlin and Potsdam-Telegrafenberg open their doors to the public and share insights into the work they do, offering information on their latest research, discoveries or experiments.

Over 2.000 events, including experiments, lectures, shows and tours, will take place in research centres, archives, institutes and laboratories - from natural sciences and politics to engineering and the humanities, drawing in more than 28.000 visitors each year. Although the majority of the events are in German, there are more than 166 events in English - and many scientists who are more than willing to explain their work in English if asked!

Promoting conversations between people and science

Inspired by the Long Night of Museums, the main goal behind the Long Night of Sciences is to promote a deeper connection between civilians and scientists by offering them access to spaces that are usually only accessible to personnel.

Not only are citizens able to cultivate a more profound understanding of scientific research, but the scientists themselves are also able to have a more open dialogue with the public. Open to people of all ages, the event also includes over 300 events dedicated to children, in order to inspire and educate the younger generations.
