Amateurs and professionals alike, a Berlin museum is calling on locals to submit their pictures of the city’s characteristic courtyards (Höfe) to be part of an upcoming exhibition.
Whether you're a professional, fancy yourself a budding photographer or just have a picture taken on your mobile phone which came out surprisingly good, Berliner Stadtmuseum wants to see your pics!
For an ongoing project, the museum is calling on people to submit pictures of the city’s courtyards (Höfe). Interested artists have until July 1 to submit their work.
“[B]ackyards are not just turning areas for the fire brigade, not just car parks or rubbish dumps. They are also places of labour, of everyday life, of activity and relaxation, places of community where people meet, play together or come together to protest,” the museum writes on its website.
“Send us your photographs in which you have captured the Berlin backyards of today, and thus also a piece of the essence and attitude of life in Berlin!”
While all of the submissions will be published on the Berliner Stadtmuseum website, a curated selection will be displayed as part of the in-person exhibition.
“Berlin Backyards: Between everyday life, labour and encounters” will open at the Museum Ephraim-Palais on July 18 and run until January 18, 2026.
