US publication TimeOut has named a street in Berlin the 7th-coolest street in the world. Streets in Rio de Janeiro and Osaka topped the 2025 ranking.
Maybachufer named 7th-coolest street in the world
Maybachufer, a stretch of embankment along the Landwehr Canal in Berlin, has been named as the 7th-coolest street in the world by TimeOut. Separating the districts of Kreuzberg and Neukölln, Maybachufer is a typical spot for hanging out by the water, walking the dog, having a beer on a sunny evening or taking a leisurely cycle.
The stretch along the canal also hosts many weekly events, including a Turkish market on Tuesdays and Fridays, and a bi-weekly flea market, the Nowkoelln Flowmarkt. Head to Ankerklause bar at the intersection with Kottbusser Damm to soak in Maybachufer and for a great street-side view of Berlin bustle.
And, just a reminder from TimeOut, “Maybachufer is just a tasty slice of the 10-kilometre Landwehr Canal. Grab a bike and follow the rest through Kreuzberg and Tiergarten all the way to Charlottenburg.”
TimeOut’s coolest streets are in Brazil and Japan
If you head to Maybachufer and things still aren’t cool enough for you, board a plane to Brazil or Japan in the name of vibes. TimeOut has named Rua do Senado in downtown Rio de Janeiro as the coolest street in the world.
Why? On Rua do Senado, you can expect lively samba sessions, cold draft beer, historic townhouses and bars, old factories inhabited by art collectives and Michelin Guide restaurants. When should you go? “[O]n a Saturday, when the traditional samba do Armazém Senado takes place, and the area comes alive with music, open shops and a festive atmosphere,” according to TimeOut.
The second coolest street was Orange Street, Osaka, originally an antiques hub, which, in the 2010s, became a “destination for international hype culture with global streetwear brands”. Now, according to TimeOut, it’s “come full circle” with local shops selling vintage Japanese clothes and furniture.
