The 11th European TramDriver Championship is heading to Frankfurt on September 14! Here’s all you need to know about the competition and accompanying festivities:

11th Tram EM is headed for Frankfurt

On September 14, Frankfurt will host 25 teams from 20 European countries as they battle it out for the title of the Best European Tram Drivers of 2024.

In the competition, tram teams from the likes of Brussels, Berlin, Stockholm, Rotterdam and Zurich will complete six disciplines in a 200-metre course across the city. Disciplines include the “Perfect Stop - stopping at a defined door with centimetre precision - or “Emergency Brake” - a reaction test in which the braking distance is measured”.

Tram bowling, when trams take a run to launch a 1,5 diameter ball into 2-metre high pins will also feature, alongside such silliness as “tram billiards”.

From across the world, enthusiasts of tram and transportation can tune in as the competition is live-streamed for the first time in its history. Head to the Tram-EM website at 11am on September 14 to see who goes home with the gold.

Die Tina Turner Story to feature at Tram-EM festivities

Held in a different European city each year, 2024 sees Frankfurt have the honour of hosting the Tram-EM.

After an official opening, the main competition, award ceremony and baton handover, Frankfurters and locals will be able to enjoy a “large family celebration” at Willy-Brandt-Platz between 10am and 7pm.

Celebrations will include a show stage featuring none other than Simply The Best - Die Tina Turner Story, entertainment for children and, perhaps most thrilling, “a large information area about public transport in Frankfurt am Main”. All this won’t cost you a penny.
