A pizza restaurant in Germany has been named the sixth best spot for a slice in Europe, outside of Italy. Time to make a pizza pilgrimage to…Fürth?

Fürth pizzeria wins European award

A pizzeria in Fürth, Bavaria, has been named as one of the best pizzerias in Europe outside of Italy. In its Guide to the Best Pizzerias in the World, pizza review site 50 Top Pizza called Pizza Zulu a “hidden gem”.

Commended for its “soft and light” dough, high-quality ingredients and “warm and welcoming atmosphere”, 50 Top Pizza said the restaurant had “confirm[ed] itself as a must-try culinary experience for lovers of true Neapolitan pizza in Germany”.

It isn’t Pizza Zulu’s first rodeo, pizzaiola Gaspare Squitieri and his team have been raking in awards since 2021, when the restaurant was named the 9th-best for Neapolitan pizza outside Italy and won an award for the “best fried food”. Two very important categories.

NAPIZZA in Nuremberg, Cavello’s in Munich, and Bottega Ceccarelli in Braunschweig also made it into the ranking, coming in 35th, 38th, and 48th place, respectively.

London pizzeria wins best European pizza outside of Italy

But the star of the show was a spot in London. Napoli on the Road in Chiswick and Richmond was named as the number one European spot for pizza outside of Italy.

50 Top Pizza gave the highest praise, calling Napoli on the Road, “much more than just a pizzeria [...] the symbol of a new era of Neapolitan pizza in the United Kingdom”.

Pizzaiolas at Napoli on the Road knead dough with “lightness, fragrance and depth of flavour”, according to 50 Top and offer “bold combinations” on a menu which changes every three months and will “surprise every visit”.
