It could hit 20 degrees this week in Germany - in December

By Abi Carter

If you were hoping for a white Christmas, it’s probably time to let it go, as weather forecasters are predicting unseasonably warm weather in Germany over the coming days. The thermometer could even hit the 20-degree mark.

Warm weather front brings mild temperatures to Germany

The German Weather Service (DWD) has pointed to a warm weather front near Portugal that is starting to spread across Germany and bring in “unusually mild air for the season.”

Other forecasters are predicting that the unusual weather conditions will leave us with an enormous variety in temperatures - on Tuesday morning, for instance, it was already 17 degrees in Rosenheim but barely reached three degrees in the foothills of the Alps.

20 degrees predicted in the Alps on Friday

After a very mild Tuesday, Wednesday will get off to a rather damp start. As a bank of rain gradually moves eastwards, temperatures will hover around the seven-degree mark but may go as high as 14 degrees in Stuttgart.

According to the DWD, Thursday will then remain largely dry with the temperature between five degrees and 12 degrees - sunny conditions could push the thermometer up to 15 degrees in the West. On Friday, temperatures will rise to between seven and 16 degrees. Warm, dry winds mean it could even climb as high as 20 degrees at the edge of the Alps in southern Germany.

Over the weekend and into Monday, the DWD is predicting cloud and frequent bouts of rain, with very windy and stormy conditions in the mountainous regions. The temperature will begin to drop again as with the strong gusts - but it doesn’t look as if snow is on the cards for next week.

Not very Christmassy at all!
