Berliners can head to a new spot to play all the timeless arcade classics; Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and Pac-Man. From September 20, the Electric Social arcade will open its doors on Alexanderplatz.
Streaming platforms and home game consoles have made arcades in Berlin an endangered species. The city of 3,6 million people can boast just four arcades.
But Berliner Zocker (Berlin gamers) can rejoice, for an 800 square metre arcade has just opened its doors on Grunerstraße 13, near Alexanderplatz.
Electric Social – Arcade Kitchen & Bar houses 50 of the most popular, classic single and multiplayer arcade games that nostalgic gamers love, making it fit competition for the city’s other main arcade hall, Game State at Potsdamer Platz.
Arcade playcards can be bought in store once you arrive. Mario Kart, Dance, Dance Revolution, Ske-Ball machines and air hockey await.
An easy claim given the dearth of arcades in Berlin, Electric Social is calling itself the city’s “first arcade kitchen and bar”. After an intense gaming sesh, visitors can head to Der Clou (the highlight), Electric Social’s in-house restaurant and bar.
Expect German beer and something along the lines of a burger for 14,50 euros or nachos, cheese and guacamole for 13,50. “It will be a completely new experience for everyone,” said owner Antonio Bruccoleri.
