Freezing, rainy, icy and even snowy wintry weather is expected in Germany this week, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).
“The weather [in Germany] will pick up speed on Thursday,” according to DWD meteorologist Julia Tuschy. Sunshine in the northeast will be clouded over by grey, rainy weather arriving from the southwest.
“Freezing rain with black ice formation can't be ruled out,” Tuschy told the dpa, especially in the “cold corners” of Thuringia and southeastern Bavaria. Across the country, highs of between 1 and 8 degrees celsius are expected.
Moving into Friday daytime and evening, there will be high wind warnings across most federal states and a chance of snow in central Germany, as temperatures in the Harz Mountain region fall to 0 degrees. Snow is also forecast to fall in the German Alps.
Saturday will be somewhat mild, with temperatures of between 5 and 10 degrees expected. Western and central parts of the country will see heavy and consistent rain, while the north and northeast will remain dry. South of the Danube River the snow line will drop as the day goes on, with snow also expected in lowland areas.
