Marktplatz 1, 70771 Leinfelden-Echterdingen

You are invited to attend Germany’s largest herb festival, where everything revolves around the unique pointed cabbage! Known in German as the Filderkraut, this special event celebrates the harvest of the pointed cabbage which on grow on Filder Plateau by Leinfelden-Echterdingen, minutes away from Stuttgart.

The 46th Pointed Cabbage Festival in Leinfelden-Echterdingen

This year sees the 46th Pointed Cabbage Festival taking place in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, a special festival during which the pointed cabbage heads are adorned, weighed, measured and paraded through the streets in an effort to take home the title of “World Champion Cabbage.”

They are displayed in marketplaces and stalls across the four districts of the festival, which attracts up to 50.000 visitors annually. The Filderkraut festival kicks off on Saturday, when the Royal Cabbage King and Queen (Krautfestkönigspaar) oversee the opening by OB Roland Klenk in Leinfelden.

Stands and stalls are set up down the Pointed Cabbage Festival Mile, offering activities and games for the entire family.

Cabbage fun for the whole family

As the pointed cabbage is central to the festival, visitors will be able to sample several different regional specialities, such as Sauerkraut, Schupfnudeln, and Krautkuchen as well as plenty of German beer, throughout the weekend at stands, restaurants, barns and cafes. A traditional cabbage slicing contest will take place in front of the city hall on Sunday after the parade.

But there is more to this traditional festival than just pointed cabbage! Stores around the Neuer Markt will open their doors until late on Friday, while several local musicians will perform on the festival stages in Leinfelden and Echterdingen.

A special exhibition will open in the tithe barn as well, with guided tours taking place every hour, and vintage cars will circle the streets of Leinfelden on Sunday.

Attending the Pointed Cabbage Festival

To get to the Pointed Cabbage Festival in Leinfelden-Echterdingen by public transport, you can take the S-Bahn from Stuttgart, which takes about 20 minutes.

So all visitors can easily travel from one festival area to another, the BDS Bund has teamed up with the city to offer a free shuttle bus service! What's more, for the past 45 years this festival has been organised by Vereine and volunteers from the area, making it a truly authentic regional experience.
