Leipziger Messe, Messe-Allee 1, 04356 Leipzig
Tickets from 16,50 euros

Despite the city's myriad other attractions, March in Leipzig is all about reading, as Leipzig Book Fair brings its unique combination of a commercial book fair and a popular reading festival, Leipzig Reads (Leipzig Liest). For four days, the fair gives visitors both young and old the opportunity to dive into the fascinating world of literature and discover exciting new publications, authors and publishing companies.

Leipzig Reads

Billed as the largest reading festival in Europe, Leipzig Reads takes place across more than 500 venues at the exhibition centre and throughout the city (all are easily accessible by public transportation). It encompasses both traditional locations such as libraries, bookshops and cafés, and also less conventional venues including churches, galleries, and even the cemetery.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet their favourite authors in every genre of literature, from crime thrillers and romances to young adult and children’s literature.

Running alongside the huge book fair, the festival attracts international publishers and authors and offers the chance to get a first look at the next stars of the literary scene.

Manga Comic Con

An important part of the Leipzig Book Fair is the Manga Comic Con. Large enough to require its own separate hall, this is first meeting point of the year for all lovers of comics, manga, cosplay and anime.

Stars of the manga and comic world are booked to attend and visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the new releases, attend book signings and enjoy anime cinema showings and other special events.

Family fun

Sunday at the book fair is billed as a special day for families, with special events planned to entertain the children. In fact, the fair also has a range of child-friendly offers throughout its four days.

The aim is to allow adults to enjoy the whole fair alongside their children by providing practical support, like children’s security bracelets and nursing rooms, and fun activities such as children’s book readings and a family café with plenty of kid-friendly food on offer.
