What to expect at Potsdam Palace Night
One of the largest UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Germany, Potsdam has the highest number of palaces per capita in the whole country, with 16 palaces and three historical parklands. During the Potsdam Palace Night, the Sanssouci buildings and park landscape are spectacularly illuminated, as dance, musical and theatre performances take place.
Musicians stationed at different locations throughout the parks and garden greet visitors with classical music performances, while period dance and theatre acts offer them further insights into how Prussian aristocracy entertained themselves.
Actors wearing period costumes walk the promenade between the Orangerie and the New Palais, the Chinese Tea House and the Roman baths all evening, while several readings also take place, sharing stories to educate listeners on the views and perceptions of their 18th-century forebears.
