The first-ever Schwerin Castle Dinner, an adaptation of the yearly Gourmet Garden Festival, welcomes its visitors in 2020 with five courses of deliciously scrumptious gourmet food, top-quality wine and some of Germany’s best beer - all against the fairytale backdrop of the city's stunning castle.

Replacement of Gourmet Garden Festival

The Gourmet Garden Festival is an annual festival celebrating the range of culinary delights and the “taste of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”. Taking place in the gourmet garden at the historic castle island in Lake Schwerin, this event would have been celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020.

Unfortunately, coronavirus restrictions have hindered plans for the festival this year. But that didn’t stop the determined organisers, who came up with an innovative, corona-friendly alternative to allow visitors to experience the taste of the area, while at the same time following regulations.

What to expect at the Schwerin Castle Dinner 2020

Standing by their motto “5 courses - 5 chefs - 5 winegrowers - 5 beers”, the event partners with restaurants in and around the Schwerin region, winegrowers from Franconia and the best beer distilleries - both German and international.

Throughout the evening, five delicious courses (each created by a different chef) will be served to guests in the illuminated inner courtyard of Schwerin Castle, accompanied by top-quality wine and beer.

Once the guests are seated, the dinner commences with a glass of sparkling wine, before moving on to the starter, the soup, the intermediate dish, the main dish, dessert and a digestif (choice of wine or beer) - all elements of a perfect five-course dinner.

The ambience is further perfected by the lively tones of high-quality jazz and pop music from ZzippVillage, the band of the evening. The culinary ambassador and moderator of the dinner, Norbert Bosse, will present each course, the chef who created it, as well as the beers and the wines before they are served.
