Cameras and mobile phones at the ready: Potsdamer Platz has a new attraction that’s just dying to be photographed. Meet the Legoland Discovery Centre’s new giraffe!

Potsdamer Platz gets a new Lego giraffe

After 15 years of standing to attention on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, the old yellow giraffe at the Legoland Discovery Centre has finally been sent into retirement and replaced by a new kid on the block.

The new giraffe, constructed on Wednesday from several broken-up parts using a crane, a pallet truck, and 42.000 Lego bricks, stands at six metres tall and is decorated all over with multicoloured spots.

Submit your name suggestion for Berlin’s new giraffe

According to the General Manager of the Discovery Centre, Anja Nitsch, the new giraffe represents “a colourful world in which everyone has the right to be accepted and to be creative.”

The giraffe doesn’t yet have a name, and the centre is calling on the public to help them out. Suggestions can be submitted via the Legoland Discovery Centre website until June 17, 2022, and the person who chooses the winning name will receive a special prize! So get your thinking caps on - although we’re not sure Giraffey McGiraffeface will cut it.
