The annual Mixology Bar Awards has announced its winners for the best new bars, best cocktails and best drinks menus across German-speaking Europe.

German bars crowned in Mixology Awards 2024

Every year, the online magazine Mixology picks its selection of the best cocktail bars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, focusing on bartenders’ skills to award the Mixology Bar title to those whose cocktails wow the biggest crowd.

The magazine awards 11 titles in the annual ceremony, nine of which were taken by bars in Germany in the 2024 ceremony. Highlights included Yaldy in Frankfurt, which claimed the title of Restaurant Bar of the Year. Just a stone’s throw from the central train station, Yaldy, which is named after a Scottish slang word which expresses enthusiasm and excitement (Yaldi), serves up an extensive wine list and a Parisian-inspired menu on top of its cocktails.

Jing Jing in Hamburg took the title of New Bar of the Year, for the drinks served alongside its menu of Thai food. Munich also got a shout-out, with Bar Gabanyi taking home the award for Bar Institution of the Year.

Berlin bars continue to dominate cocktail awards

But like most years, bars in Berlin managed to steal away the majority of titles during the awards. Named Newcomer of the Year in last year’s awards, Wax On took the title of both Bar Staff of the Year and Bartender of the Year this time around, which was granted to owner Damien Guichard.

Another Berlin bar to take two titles in the award ceremony was Provocateur; the swanky boutique hotel was named Hotel Bar of the Year, with bartender Roxanne Helm donned Newcomer of the Year. Finally, Thomas Pflanz of the modest but elegant Hildegard bar of Berlin’s City West was named Host of the Year for 2024.
